We can’t go more than an hour without being reminded to do our part to save the environment. Most of us can say with pride, “I recycle so I help a little” and “I’ve been living a ‘no single-use plastic’ life for the past 5 years.” While those are wonderful, there’s even more that brands can do to help create a more circular economy and environment. According to WGSN, the world’s leading trend forecaster, designing long-lasting products by carefully selecting materials and finishes that will look and feel good five-plus years from now is critical to helping the planet.

The key is to simplify and embrace the idea of “less is more” by using durable materials and finishes that are enhanced over time. Nickel is the 5th most abundant element. It is hard, strong, ductile, and pliable. Nickel is often hidden but enables many technologies needed for sustainability such as contributing to an efficient infrastructure that supplies clean water and minimizes water loss. Nickel's unique long-term properties reduce environmental impacts. According to Nickel Institute, nickel has a long lifespan, taking several decades before it needs to be recycled, which helps reduce its carbon footprint. At end of life, nickel is one of the most recycled materials.

How does this new-found nickel knowledge relate to you? Did you know that LaFrance uses nickel as the base material in our premium electroform product line?
