Have you ever found yourself wondering how to incorporate on-product branding when you forgot about it until the full product has been designed or you simply don’t have the real estate? Fear not, LaFrance can help alleviate those concerns and guide you towards a solution that meets both your product aesthetics goals and your branding results.

By definition, the word essential means “absolutely necessary; extremely important.” We can all agree that on-product branding is an essential element of any product design. If it wasn’t essential, you’d be perfectly fine going to market with a product that doesn’t have your brand name anywhere. That sounds crazy right? Now that we’re in agreement that on-product branding is essential, how it is executed is just as critical, right? Think about this…if you say you are “reliable”, “trustworthy”, “cutting-edge”, “bold”, “innovative” or any other adjective most brands love to use, then your entire product needs to exude that message. If your on-product branding doesn’t look like who you say you are, then you’re just going to confuse your target markets.

For the purposes of this blog, let’s pretend your company’s name is “BRAND.” You forgot about adding your name to the product and you’re only one month away from mass production. You don’t have time to design and integrate superior branding onto/into your product. You are “forced” to print your logo.  Here are the 2 main problems with that line of thinking:  1) you’ve “fixed” a short-term problem that has potential to have long-term negative effects and 2) what happens when your printed logo wears off, scratches off, or fades 1-2 months into your product’s lifecycle? “BRAND” now says “B AN .“ Suddenly you don’t look very reliable, trustworthy, cutting-edge, bold, or innovative, do you?

There are ways to act quickly,  meet production, and save your brand by incorporating distinctive on-product branding that will last for the life of your product. Depending on your product’s environment, adding a dimensional logo can be a simple, yet effective solution - we have many proven adhesives that can withstand even the harshest of environments. Or if you want a more integrated look, you can utilize our metal letters, low profile electroform, or sheet plastic and have the logo sit top-surface but give the appearance of a seamless execution. These improvements can be added with minor tool changes or, in some cases, without modifying tooling at all.

When space is an issue, consider incorporating your logo into a functional component. Transform your button into a functional logo! Etch your name on the mesh porting of your electronics’ earpiece! Not only can you add branding to these elements, but you can also introduce textures and patterns to your functional buttons, ports, and vents to increase the overall user experience. Your product won’t work without functional pieces, so why not dress them up and use them as land areas for your brand name? Have you ever heard the saying “two birds, one stone?" We think they were talking about branded functional components!

There are many ways to beat the clock and utilize every millimeter of your product’s canvas and we are here to help. To speak to someone about how to make your brand look as amazing as it really is, please complete our form. We look forward to working with you!
