In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, our LaFrance employees and their families joined for a day of service and giving back at Leveling the Playing Field’s warehouse in Philadelphia, PA.
Leveling the Playing Field (LPF) collects new and gently used sports and playground equipment from the community which is sorted, inventoried, and organized by volunteers. Our employees rolled up their sleeves and dug into large donation boxes full of miscellaneous sporting equipment from hockey helmets to soccer balls. Pulling out every item, the equipment was sorted into piles corresponding by sport. Items were counted to provide LPF inventory on each boxes’ contents to keep track of how many pieces of specific equipment arrived and then the donations were placed into designated bins around the warehouse. After volunteers sort the donations, the sporting goods are distributed to local schools and organizations to supply affordable and accessible options to under-resourced community programs.
LFP aims to involve more youth in sports and activities to provide life skills, healthier mindsets, improve education, and reduce the crime rate. By removing the cost barrier of sport equipment, families and youth programs reallocate towards lowering registration fees, supplying transportation, hiring more coaches, and starting new sports programs.
LaFrance’s commitment to community and teamwork is an integral and long-standing tenant in our core values. With our heritage rooted in South Philadelphia, we recognize the importance of giving back and improving our communities. The volunteer team promotes and motivates LaFrance employees to complete volunteer opportunities. LaFrance offers volunteer paid time off, giving our employees the chance to serve organizations such as Cradles to Crayons, Toys for Tots, and Vetri Community Partnership as a team. LPF provided an amazing opportunity to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day and to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of background.
